Campaign Update, 2009-06-30

Lloyd’s campaign for King County Assessor is a month old. Things are moving fast . . . and other things, not so fast.

Filing: The special filing period is August 19, 20 and 21, right after the regular August 18th Primary.   Somebody could conceivably turn around and file for Assessor after finishing 3rd or 4th in another local race.

Endorsements: Our endorsement count topped 400 over the weekend. Many groups take up Assessor endorsements only after filing, at their September meetings — too late, unfortunately, to make the Voter’s Panphlet. Our prestige endorsements so far include:

  • Carpenters and Joiners Local 1797
  • SeaTac Firefighters Local  1257
  • Street Pavers Local 440
  • Sailors Union of The Pacific
  • 5th, 11th, 32nd, 33rd, 39th and 48th Legislative District Democrats
  • 36th Legislative District Republicans
  • Seattle Bull Moose Society
  • Over 60 current and former elected officials serving King County

Not counting dual endorsements, our opponent lists 2 current King County officeholders . . . plus 3 other individuals registered to vote in King County, other than his departmental employees and hired help in the campaign.

Fundraising: PDC reports we raised $24,670 compared to our opponent’s $5,520.  Most of his money comes from his departmental employees and campaign staff and consultants. We don’t do that.

Media: An interesting exchange occurs in a pair of items by Keith Ervin on the Seattle Times Politics Northwest blog.  See Scott Noble’s parting endorsement, followed by Lloyd Hara defends his record on taxes. If that’s their idea of putting us on defense, let’s have more of it! (We’ve added a page for FactChecks of shenanigans like this.)

Our opponent and the whole Noble posse receive more sympathetic treatment in The Stranger’s “County Switching Horses and Raising Taxes?“.

Humor: Our opponent raised eyebrows yesterday by claiming Senator Patty Murray’s endorsement.  When we looked again today, Senator Patty had been demoted to State Senator Ed Murray.

Public Appearances: Lloyd is everywhere. Just everywhere.  Count on it.

Happy Fourth, and happy trails!
